Appointments for the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth

April 29, 2023

Most Reverend Brian Joseph Dunn, Archbishop of Halifax-Yarmouth, announces the following appointments, which will be effective on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, unless otherwise stated:

75 years of Ministry!

Father Clarence Thibeau will be celebrating 75 years of priesthood on May 23 (he also turns 100 on July 20!).  Father Clarence still celebrates Mass every day and usually concelebrates on Sunday at Saint Ambrose in Yarmouth.  To honour him, we are gathering on the day he was ordained 75 years ago to celebrate with him.  On Tuesday May 23rd at 6:30pm there will be a mass at Saint Ambrose with a reception to follow.  His Grace Archbishop Brian Dunn will be presiding.  Come join us in honouring Fr. Clarence’s many years of service.

Last week the Vatican officially repudiated the Doctrine of Discovery with a joint statement released by the Dicasteries for Culture and Education and for Promoting Integral Human Development. In the document they uphold “fidelity to the mandate received from Christ, the Catholic Church strives to promote universal fraternity and respect for the dignity of every human being. “

On April 2, 2023, Pope Francis appointed Bishop Józef A. Dąbrowski, C.S.M.A., as bishop of the Diocese Charlottetown. The diocese has been without a bishop since Most Reverend Richard Grecco retired in March 2021.

Bishop Dąbrowski, C.S.M.A., was born in 1964 in Wysoka Strzyżowska, Poland, in the diocese of Rzeszów. After entering the Congregation of Saint Michael Archangel he carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Istituto Teologico San Pietro, Viterbo, Italy, where he was awarded a master’s degree in theology.

He was ordained a priest on May 4, 1991 in Viterbo.
