Archbishop Dunn and Fr. Craig Cameron Receive Platinum Jubilee Medal

On January 12, 2023, Archbishop Brian J. Dunn was one of fourteen individuals who were presented with the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of significant service to the province of Nova Scotia by the Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia.

While a couple of months earlier, on November 3, 2022, Very Rev. Craig Cameron, Rector of St. Mary’s Cathedral was among the thirteen individuals who were also presented with The Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal by the Lieutenant Governor.

The medal was created to mark the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne. The focus of this program was to honour those who have devoted themselves to the service of others, especially throughout the pandemic, be it as a result of their job, volunteer work or contributions to their community.

To be eligible for this honour, a person had to:QEII platinum medal By Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia

  • be a resident of Nova Scotia or have a strong direct connection with the province
  • have made a significant contribution to Canada, Nova Scotia or to a particular region or community
  • have been alive on February 6,  2022, the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty’s accession to the Throne.

Nominations were considered by partner organizations, notably; the Lieutenant Governor, the Premier, Leader of the Opposition, Leader of the Third Party, Members of the Legislative Assembly, the Department of National Defense, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and others. A total of 5,000 medals were awarded and the program concludes on February 5, 2023.
