On April 2, 2023, Pope Francis appointed Bishop Józef A. Dąbrowski, C.S.M.A., as bishop of the Diocese Charlottetown. The diocese has been without a bishop since Most Reverend Richard Grecco retired in March 2021.
Bishop Dąbrowski, C.S.M.A., was born in 1964 in Wysoka Strzyżowska, Poland, in the diocese of Rzeszów. After entering the Congregation of Saint Michael Archangel he carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Istituto Teologico San Pietro, Viterbo, Italy, where he was awarded a master’s degree in theology.
He was ordained a priest on May 4, 1991 in Viterbo.
He has served in the Diocese of London, Ontario in a variety of ministries that include: adjunct parish priest of Our Lady of Częstochowa (1992-1993); adjunct parish priest of Saint Michael’s and chaplain of the Cardinal Carter High School in Leamington (1993-1996); adjunct parish priest of Saint Pius X and chaplain of the Saint Thomas Aquinas High School (1996-1997). He served as parish priest of Saint Mary’s and chaplain of the Catholic High School.
From 2002 to 2003 he was also adjunct spiritual director of the Saint Peter Diocesan Seminary, and from 2004 to 2006, a member of the diocesan Presbyteral Council.
On 19 June 2013 he was appointed as the first superior of the new vice-province of the Micaeliti “Saint Kateri Tekakwitha”, for North America.
He was elected auxiliary bishop of London in January 2015, and received episcopal consecration the following April.
Within the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, he is a member of the Commission for Evangelization and Catechesis.
