Discerning the Diaconate: Acolyte Installation

Over the past number of years, several lay men have been discerning becoming a part of the permanent diaconate in the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth. As they continue their journey towards ordination as permanent deacons for our local Church, there are stages to their formation. One of these steps is to be installed as an acolyte. An acolyte is one who serves at the altar and to assists the clergy in liturgical celebrations, especially in the celebration of Mass.

This summer, six men in the diaconate formation program will be installed as acolytes.

  • Joseph Banwo - August 9 at the 11 am Mass at St. Ignatius Parish
  • Dan MacDonald  - August 15 at the 4 pm Mass at St. Clement Church, Divine Mercy Parish.
  • Tulio Quintero - August 22 at the 4 pm Mass at St. Benedict Parish
  • Tom Vess and Ross Lawrence - August 23 at the 10 am Mass at St. Michael Church, Stella Maris Parish
  • Dave Riel - September 6 at the 11:30 mass at St. Genevieve Church, St. John of the Cross Parish.

Please keep these men and their wives in prayer as they continue to respond to God’s call to serve the Church of Halifax-Yarmouth as permanent deacons.
