2nd Anniversary of Pope Francis’ Penitential Pilgrimage to Canada

Last Wednesday, July 24, marked two years since Pope Francis made a penitential pilgrimage to Canada. The purpose of the papal visit was to acknowledge and apologize for the horrors experienced by the survivors of the residential school system and the impact these schools had on Indigenous communities.  The Holy Father also called on the Canadian Bishops to make intentional efforts towards justice, healing and reconciliation.

To acknowledge the importance of this most recent papal visit, the CCCB released a media release and a  Letter to the People of God.  Both documents share the ways in which the Canadian Catholic Church is seeking to walk together with our Indigenous communities across this land.  They are available in English and French and can be found at the following links:

Media Release: English  / French

Letter to the People of God:  English / French

Both the media release and the letter can also be found the CCCB website: www.cccb.ca
